By using Hall’s representation theory, my choices of photos construct a representation of my identity through things that are important to me, such as my love of art, my dog (Milo), my interest in fashion, my sense of femininity through the nails and jewellery (which also represent my love for my Indian culture, given that they are bangles), and my enjoyment of nature specifically in autumn and peaceful environments. The darker images, such as the Conjuring poster represent my interest in darker or more mysterious aesthetics. Through Hall’s reception theory, I can anticipate that audiences may have different readings: a preferred reading could be that I am creative, feminine, caring, adventurous and interested in art and culture; a negotiated reading might recognise these qualities but understand that the collage only shows selected aspects of my identity; while an oppositional reading could interpret the images as an idealised or stereotypical presentation of femininity and lifestyle rather than an accurate representation of who I am.
